Do laboratories test unlabelled or anonymous samples?
The short answer
A laboratory needs to know what compound to test against, because identity and quantification are measured relative to a reference standard — but it does not need to know who sold it. Declaring the expected peptide while withholding the vendor is normal, and it is exactly how a blind test should be submitted.
In detail
Testing a genuinely unknown sample against no declared target is a different and much larger exercise: an open screening problem rather than a purity test, requiring mass spectrometry and considerably more time.
For the ordinary case, declare the peptide and the label claim, and leave the vendor out of it. The analysis is unaffected and the result stays uncontaminated by expectation.
