What is batch or lot testing?
The short answer
Lot testing means analysing a sample from each production batch and tying the certificate to that lot number. It is what makes a result traceable to the vial in your hand: the lot on the label and the lot on the certificate must match. Without that link, a certificate describes some material the vendor once had.
In detail
A lot is defined by a single synthesis and filling run under uniform conditions. Change either and you have a different lot, whatever the label says.
Traceability is the whole point. It lets a buyer match their vial to a specific analysis, and it lets a vendor recall or investigate a defined population rather than everything they have sold.
When a certificate carries no lot number at all, there is no mechanism by which it can be about your vial.
