What does research use only mean on a peptide report?
The short answer
It means the material and the analysis are intended for laboratory research, not for human or veterinary use, and that the laboratory makes no fitness-for-use claim. A testing laboratory measures composition; it does not assess safety, sterility for injection, or suitability for any application. The label is a scope statement about what was and was not evaluated.

The distinction is substantive rather than cosmetic. Purity and quantity say nothing about endotoxin load, sterility, or the many quality attributes a medicinal product must demonstrate.
Reading a research-use certificate as a safety clearance is the single most common misinterpretation in this market. A clean chromatogram is not a clean bill of health.
